The world’s first tea bungalow resort, Ceylon Tea Trails is an icon for small luxury resorts. Comprising of five restored colonial era tea planter residences, the period furnishings, gracious butler service and gourmet cuisine create an ambience that has made Tea Trails the gold standard for luxury bungalows in Sri Lanka. Situated at an altitude of 1250 meters near Hatton in central Sri Lanka, the resort borders the World Heritage Central Highlands and offers breathtaking panoramas of mountains and lush tea fields. Each bungalow is unique and exudes its own exquisite ambiance while offering guests the non-hotel, private house ambience that is the hallmark of the award-winning, “all-inclusive” Tea Trails experience. We invite you to take a trail with us through panoramic Ceylon tea gardens or laze in one of the bungalows, watching the mist roll in with a crackling fire warding off the evening chill

Tea Experience:
This is the essential Tea Trails experience. Their Resident Tea Planter will demonstrate the age-old tea making process. First, follow the trail of the planters of old Ceylon, as they trekked through the dense jungle looking for the best slopes on which to plant tea. Then on to watch the tea pluckers pick two leaves and a bud with deft hands.
Then to the factory where the all-important conversion to “made” black tea happens. The machinery used is of very traditional British design, some as old as 100 years. The process is a very artisanal one, unchanged for a century. The daily tour ends with a tasting of different grades of this great brew.
Together with the tea-infused cuisine, tea based spa treatments and trekking trails that traverse tea-blanketed hills, you can literally lose yourself in tea. You will leave Tea Trails with a newly found appreciation of this wonder herb “Camellia Sinensis” & the terroir of Ceylon Tea.

Wild Coast Tented Lodges
Where the Indian Ocean meets the Jungle… Wild Coast Tented Lodge, adjacent to the world famous Yala National Park, renowned for its dense leopard population. This spectacular luxury tented camp is situated in a stunning location where the jungle meets a rugged, empty beach, overlooking the Indian Ocean. Wild Coast Lodge’s unique design, masterminded by Nomadic Resorts, a consortium of Dutch, English and Sri Lankan designers, sees the man-made structures blending seamlessly into the surrounding landscape thanks to the use of carefully selected natural materials. The use of arched fabric structures allows each of the 28 tents to take on the shape and color of the rocks and boulders that lay scattered nearby, whilst a clever layout in the shape of a leopard’s paw print alludes to the area’s most famous resident.
While our main buildings, made of bamboo, blend in with the distinctive rock formations of Yala, our uniquely shaped tents, called Cocoons & Urchins, truly represent a luxury five-star resort room under canvas, offering state-of-the art amenities including air-conditioning. The open-air bamboo-clad Ten Tuskers bar and Dining Pavilion – designed to mirror the boulders scattered across the golden beach beyond – wrap around the resort’s enormous free-form swimming pool. Guests can enjoy creative daily-changing menus of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine in the restaurant, as well as sundowner cocktails and picnics al fresco on the sand dunes, watching dusk settle over the Indian Ocean.
Later in the day, go on a game drive in Yala National Park.
Yala National Park is located between Southern and Uva Provinces of Sri Lanka. It is the second largest park of the country and is also one of the earliest wild sanctuaries. The largest breed of leopards is found in this area. Probably sighting months of leopards are from January to July. Two prominent pilgrim sites are also situated within the park.

Cape Cinnamon Experience :
Top House is a beautiful working cinnamon estate of 25 acres, just inland from Weligama and within 10 minutes’ drive of Cape Weligama. There the cinnamon grows on the steep slopes of a high hill in this cinnamon heartland. The main house is perched on the hilltop with spectacular views over the jungle to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south.
The English owners have restored the plantation over the last five years and now produce true Ceylon cinnamon. They have also built an artisan distillery where they extract fine cinnamon oil according to age-old techniques fine-tuned with modern technology.
This is no ordinary tour: there is lots to see, lots to learn and lots to taste. The tour covers the nursery, the plantation, the peeling hut and the oil shed.
It explains the history of Ceylon cinnamon as well as showing the planting, harvest, peeling and preparation of quills. It also explains cinnamon leaf bundling and the entire process of cinnamon oil extraction, as well as the surprising uses of this very special oil. It demonstrates an eco-friendly and perfectly self-sustaining farming process, with every part of the plant used or recycled, and a completely natural and health-giving result.
